Past Project: Second Story Addition What do you do when you love your home and the neighborhood you live in but realize it is not big enough to meet the demands of your growing family? This is exactly what these homeowners faced when they had their third little girl. We proposed that they add on to their existing home instead of moving. This would allow them to keep the same house, neighborhood, neighbors and friends. We designed a second floor bedroom/closet addition. This included adding a hallway and a spacious 10'x14' bedroom above the existing garage, with an office/storage room next to it. The existing bathroom would also be altered to have double sinks and a separate toilet area to accommodate more than one girl using it at a time. The family also decided to update the entire kitchen and living room. So, we went to work with the demolition. Out came the kitchen cabinets and island, decorative lighting, living room cabinets and fireplace surround. The entire wood floor on the first floor was stripped and refinished as well. While the remodeling on the first floor was underway, we went to work on building the upstairs bedroom addition. As with every addition, we have two basic goals. The main goal is to make the home look like the addition has always been there on the exterior and the second is to make the new part of the home flow together with the existing home on the interior. 
Looking at the outside of the home, the front looks like it was lacking this addition all along. Now that it's finished, it brings a balance to the front of the home. Walking down the new hall to the bedrooms and storage room looks great. You would never know from looking inside or outside that there was an addition built onto the home. It turned out exactly as we envisioned and planned. 
All of the remodeling is finished now and each of the girls has their own bedroom. We could not be happier with how this project turned out and seeing how happy the family is in their newly remodeled home.
