April 2016 Newsletter

In the past, we have shared stories and pictures from remodeling projects ranging from kitchens, bathrooms, additions and even remodeling entire houses. Not all of our projects are as large or as involved as those projects though. Quite often, a homeowner will have us do a smaller project or just one area of the home to make sure we are a good fit. Other times, we will do multiple projects for the same clients over a few years as their budget allows. The latter is the case with our featured project this month.

This particular project is the fourth part of this home that we have helped update in the past two years. The homeowners have a list of projects that they would like to do and are working with us to complete them one at a time. Our project this time around was to remove and replace the flooring throughout the entire first floor, as well as updating the kitchen backsplash.

The existing flooring on the first floor consisted of a builder-grade, narrow wood floor, carpeting and tile. Our goal was to change all of the flooring to a wider plank wood floor to give the first floor a unified look. Our clients chose a beautiful 8 inch wide, hand scraped, hickory engineered, wood floor in a dark color. This really helps make the white trim in the home pop and contrast with the new wood floor.

We also removed the white square tile backsplash in the kitchen and installed a new glass mosaic tile in its place. The new glass tiles were installed horizontally to make the kitchen look up to date and help guide your eyes around the room.

We also did some miscellaneous work while our carpenters were at the home including venting the existing range hood to the exterior (instead of recirculating back into the home) and adding a cat door to the door at the top of the staircase leading to the lower level.

Our clients had the following to say about their experience… “Simon Builders has always exceeded our expectations and always met the needs we have had for our various projects over the years. They provided us with information and used materials we otherwise would have never known about, such as custom porch screening for cats, fixing structural issues found during a bathroom refresh, and improving our home’s air quality with a heat recovery ventilation system. Terry, Bob, and their crews were always professional on site, and Simon Builders ensured all vendor issues were always handled making the process as stress free for us as possible. We would never hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to remodel, refresh or build a new house.”

We are fortunate to have such great clients, and especially enjoy working with so many of them on multiple projects over the years. If you, or someone you know, is looking to update or remodel your home, we would love to help out.
