December 2015 Newsletter
The homeowners had just purchased this house and came to us with a long wish list of projects they had in mind. They were looking for help prioritizing. We created a type of shopping list of the different budgets for the different areas, and explained that it would be beneficial to tackle the kitchen before they moved in, but that the remainder of the work could be done while they lived in the home.
The existing kitchen had the original stained oak cabinets and woodwork that were popular years ago. They were still in very good shape, but the owner wanted to change all of the stained woodwork to new painted white trim.
Additional storage space was added by removing the dropped ceiling above the upper cabinets and having the new cabinets extend all the way to the ceiling. This also gave the room a larger appearance. New countertops and under counter lighting also helped improve the appearance of this space.
The existing laundry area had the washer and dryer centered in the space with a closet and small cabinet on either side. By removing the closet and moving the washer and dryer over, we were able to add two cubbies to help organize coats and shoes, with additional storage space above. Another great feature is the added barn door that can close off the laundry room from the rest of the house. Before, you could see the laundry area (and any mess) from the kitchen. Now, the barn door can close that area off and keep it out of sight.
The original wood burning fireplace had been changed out to a pellet burning fireplace by the previous owners. The entire brick wall, pellet fireplace and the old drafts wood storage cabinet were removed. We framed a new wall over the entire area, added insulation and a new gas burning fireplace before dry walling the area. An outlet and conduit were added so that a TV could be mounted above the new mantle and easily connected to the audio/video equipment located in the cabinet to the left of the fireplace.
Of the long list these homeowners had, we were able to help them get through the bigger, more difficult areas, making significant improvements to the home. We are very happy to have been able to help and look forward to helping them remodel or ReFresh the remainder of their home when the time comes.
