Featured Project: Refresh an Entire Home!
This month, our featured project is a stunning example of what can be accomplished with a little imagination and hard work. A couple of years ago, we built a home in Middleton for a fantastic client. Last summer, that client came back to us and told us that because the building process went so well, they wanted us to remodel a lake home that they were purchasing on Lake Wisconsin. The home had extensive water frontage on two sides. The home itself needed work because it looked dated. They wanted this lake home to look and feel just like the new home we had built them. We were more than happy to help out!
Our first step was to walk through the home with our clients and write down all of the things they were asking for. We then prepared a ballpark price for all of the different areas they had mentioned in a shopping list style. They could then pick and choose which areas they wanted to remodel and help narrow down the scope. After the scope was defined, we went to work on the demolition portion of the work and removed the base, casing, doors, flooring, cabinets and countertops.
One of the focuses of this remodel was the kitchen. The old layout was a bit crowded and the island was not very functional. The new layout provides a better flow, as well as room for more than one cook at a time to be able to use the space. A larger island allows for a much more efficient work area. The adjoining living room was also completely redone. The home had wood burning fireplaces that were quite drafty. A new gas log kit was installed along with a new fireplace front to allow the fireplace to be energy efficient and look good too.
Scroll over a picture below to see the “before” picture.
The three bathrooms in the home were also redone to bring them up to the same level of quality the rest of the home would have. New cabinets, countertops and flooring are now the focal point of these bathrooms.
The laundry room was completely redone and now incorporates cubbies and coat hooks for guests. In the lower level, the fireplace was changed to a gas insert with new face and a new tiled floor was installed.
The staircase and the two bedrooms upstairs received the same updates. The wallpaper borders were removed and new lighting, base, casing, and paint bring these areas together.
This whole-house refresh project has turned out great! The home went from an average, dated house on the lake, to a high-end lake home. You may be thinking,Hey the interior looks good, but what about the exterior? Does that still look dated? Well, be sure to check back next month where we will show you all of the changes and updates we made to the exterior of this home. We are truly grateful to have such wonderful clients and can’t wait to see what their next project may be!
The Villas in The Community of Bishops Bay
Back in October we introduced our latest high-end residential development project, the Villas in The Community of Bishops Bay. To read that article, click here. Now that we are four months into construction of the first Villa, it is time for an update. Currently the “rough” stage of this home is complete. The roof is on and the windows and doors have been installed, so our building envelope is complete.
The rough mechanicals, including the plumbing, heating ventilation and air conditioning, electrical, alarm system and central vacuum system have all been installed. We will be installing the insulation and then the home will undergo a complete inspection, including a detailed energy audit to ensure this home performs up to our high standards.
The next stage is the drywall and painting taking place before our “finish” stage can start. Be sure to check back for future updates as well as information on how you can walk through this home when it’s completed. We are going all out on this model to set the stage for the remaining nine homes that will be built on our private drive, Callaway Court.
