Featured Project: Master Bathroom ReFresh – From “Builder Grade” to Luxurious

This month’s featured project is another master bathroom ReFresh. Unlike last month’s update of a 100+ year old home that had damage, this month’s project is updating a master bathroom that was finished in “builder grade” materials when the house was built. The owner wanted the master bathroom to feel special and more luxurious.

The existing bathroom had white tile flooring, a white bathtub with a white solid surface surrounding it, and a white shower module. While it was all functional, it was pretty uninspiring. By upgrading those items the new bath will not only have function, it will have flair.

The existing flooring, wood base, light fixtures, vanity cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures, bath accessories, shower, shower door and wallpaper in the master bathroom were removed and disposed of.

As the existing shower module was removed, we also took out the dropped header to add a more spacious feel to the shower. A beautiful, new linear glass mosaic accent tile was chosen for the shower and tub surround areas, which not only adds beauty, but ties the two areas together nicely. A new ½” thick heavy glass shower door helps to make the shower feel more spacious and allows the beautiful interior of the new shower to be viewed.

The flooring in the bathroom was updated, and we even added a heat mat with a programmable thermostat so the tiled floor can be warmed before the owners even wake up. Say goodbye to the days of cold tiled floors in the wintertime!

The existing tub remained in place, but the white solid surface surround was removed and replaced with the same gorgeous tile as in the shower. Cabinet fronts similar to the vanity cabinets were added to the tub face to help enrich the room.

Before After

For continuity, the same tile accent that was used around the shower and tub area was also used as a backsplash above the new quartz countertop at the vanity.

Before After

Not noticeable in the pictures, but important for the look and comfort of the room, the existing bath fan was replaced with a new high powered fan/light/night combo and was vented to the exterior of the house instead of into the attic space.

A master bathroom ReFresh can fix damage and update a 100+ year old home or it can take a “builder grade” bath from blah to WOW! Our featured bathroom is not only special, but much more luxurious.
